ISM exhibit: Maxus 1B

The MAXUS 1B was a European sounding rocket designed to give its payload more than ten minutes in free-fall for microgravity experiments. It was launched on November 8, 1992.

There was a MAXUS 1 rocket before the MAXUS 1B, but its launch was a failure. The MAXUS 1 payload was recovered, refurbished, and relaunched by MAXUS 1B.

The MAXUS rocket program is a joint venture between the Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) and the German space company EADS-ST. It is funded by the European Space Agency (ESA). The ?Deutsche Aerospace? logo on the side of the MAXUS 1B refers to a German corporation that ultimately became part of EADS. The SSC logo is can also be seen on the model; it is the gray logo below and to the right of the ESA logo.

Other MAXUS rockets followed the MAXUS 1B. MAXUS 7 was scheduled to launch in May of 2006.
