ISM exhibit: F-1 Engine

The F-1 Engine was the engine that lifted the Saturn V Moon Rocket into space, to take the first men to the Moon. It is the most powerful single-nozzle liquid fueled rocket engine ever developed (as of 2007).

There were five F-1 engines on the first (bottom) stage of every Saturn V rocket.

Every second, each F-1 burned 4,000 pounds of liquid oxygen and 2,000 pounds of kerosene, to produce over 1.5 million pounds of thrust force. That's more thrust than all three Space Shuttle Main Engines (SSME's) combined!
